It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s the Superhero Brunch! Props to the marketing team of The Address for coming up with such a novel concept. They’ve repositioned the basic brunch into a Saturday affair for families where kids can run amok and parents can enjoy the copious food and free-flowing bevvies.
I’m not a superhero fan, per se, but how fun would it be to have a room full of brunching adults in full-on cosplay? But don’t hold your breath – you’ll have to go to Comic Con to see the real superheroes. Here, the dress up was limited to a few hostesses wearing Supergirl costumes and a few kids in Iron Man outfits. But no matter, because the real question is… how is the food??
Superhero or not, the food at Mazina is always good quality. For the brunch, it’s a standard buffet set-up where you help yourself to a lot of variety – from seafood to Asian to Indian to a pork section to a healthy section to old-fashioned roast dinner. Plus, of course, salads, breads and desserts.
Here are the cheeses on display.
And the Asian options.
I was happy to find several of my favourites including roast ducks hanging in the Asian section, salmon sashimi in the seafood section, and pork belly and ribs in the pork section. So this is where I focused my efforts.
Since the weather was still mild, we sat outside on the terrace which very peaceful, with a view overlooking some construction and a quiet part of Dubai Marina.
First plate down. Salmon sashimi please.
Second plate down. Duck, duck and more duck.
The dessert display at The Address is always one of my favourites. They have so many gorgeous and mouthwatering options – from individual pudding cups and pastries that you can request from behind the counter, to two chocolate fountains, to a host of whole cakes, to the hot desserts such as the sticky toffee pudding, umm ali, and bread and butter pudding.
This tart almost looks too good to eat.
The Superhero Brunch takes place at Mazina every Saturday from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. It costs AED 315 per person including soft beverages, AED 440 per person with unlimited house beverages, and AED 595 per person with unlimited house beverages and bubbly.
Verdict: This is a fab brunch for fanboys and families with young kids – though to be fair, there are less of the former and more of the latter. Dress your kiddies up in their superhero costumes and let them run amok in the play area while you enjoy the copious food and free-flowing bevvies.
Note to self: Not the place if you want subdued unless you book a table on the small outdoor terrace.
