I was a golfer in a previous life. Though not for very long and not a very good one. And despite that (or perhaps because of) I still sometimes find it intimidating to go to a golf club. The clientele is usually slick and smart with their golf bags, collared shirts, visors and that certain je ne sais quoi.
I guess that’s why the Montgomerie Golf Club now just goes by the Address Montgomerie. But golfer or not, you can still enjoy a leisurely Friday brunch at their signature restaurant, Nineteen.
This brunch seems to attract a slightly older crowd. The guests are largely Western, many in groups and with babies in tow – winding down on the weekend with free-flowing booze and endless chatter.
The restaurant is rather intimate with an indoor area and an open terrace overlooking the golf course; the food is simple with comforting Italian home-style dishes; many of the staff are Italian and very friendly and welcoming. You’ll find antipasti, salads, and cheeses, plus a live pasta and risotto station where you can witness the swirling of a risotto within a massive wheel of Parmigiano-Regianno or the finishing of a pasta in a creamy walnut sauce.
There are also roasts, Italian mains (such as individually-parceled sea bass, eggplant Parmigiana, and a lasagne with béchamel), plus a small seafood station and a killer pork section with the most mouth-watering roast pork belly and ribs.
Friday brunch at Nineteen takes place from 12:30pm to 3:30pm and will set you back AED 245 per person including soft drinks, AED 345 per person with house bevvies, or AED 550 with premium sparkling beverages. Kids below 5 years old dine for free and kids between 6 and 11 can dine for AED 122.
Verdict: Though not the biggest of brunches, it’s a great option for a slightly older crowd who are happy with their roasts, a good selection of pork, and a handful of Italian mains – especially if you live in the Emirates Hills area.
Note to self: Book in advance for a table on the terrace when the weather is nice for a relaxing view of the golf course.
